2 DAYS PRIVATE CAPPADOCIA TOUR
Tour Plan
Day 1
Our professional tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 9:30 am. The first stop is Esentepe, a great vantage point overlooking Goreme. Here, your guide will tell you about Cappadocia’s history and unique rock formations. From here we will visit the starting point of the Rose Valley, a 1-hour easy hike through fairy chimneys, orchards and vineyards. Our next stop is Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your guide will explain the significance of the cave church frescoes, which adorn scenes from the Old and New Testaments from the 10th century. This place has been used as a monastery since the dawn of Christianity. For lunch we went to a nice restaurant in Goreme. The end of our first day takes us to the river town of Avanos, where 4000 year-old potters use clay from the river for their trade. We also stop by Urgup’s family fairy chimneys, Monk’s Valley with distinctive mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys and Devrent’s animal-shaped rock formations. Along the way, we make several photo stops that include St. Simeon’s monk cell carved into a rock and other natural rock formations shaped into animal shapes. Our day comes to a close with a potter’s display and an opportunity to participate in an ancient tradition. You’ll return to your hotel after dusk, currently estimated at 5pm.
Day 2
The Kaymakli Underground City was created about 3500 years ago by the Hittites. It is an underground multi-level city used by early Christians as a main shelter from invading enemies in the 6th and 7th centuries. The 2nd day of your Private Cappadocia Tour also starts at 9:30AM. Our first stop is at Kaymakli Underground City. Kaymakli is an enormous underground city located in Cappadocia; it’s home to 8 levels of subterranean living. The city features stables, wineries and temples. Kaymakli is located further south than the Ihlara Valley and can be seen from the road when leaving it. After walking alongside the Melendiz River for one hour, travelers can stop at a restaurant overlooking the river in Belisirma. We travel to the Selime Monastery, the largest rock-cut monastery in Cappadocia. It features a cave cathedral with stunning views over the region. We also pass by Pigeon Valley while returning to Goreme.
